Re: What Are You Eating?
that's the way to do it....

Anyone here ever had fresh fish
What I mean is Caught yourself cut open and take a piece of Sashimi
Many times.

This one time in Penang Malaysia, I was trying to find something lekovod shabbos but there was absolutely no kosher food to be found. An hour before shabbos, I had given up on the search and am riding my moped on the way back to the guest, I see an old man fishing at the pier. I stop and look into his bucket and sure enough, there's a beautiful parrot fish swimming around in there. Its got the scales & fins so I offer him $1 and he agrees. On my way back to the guesthouse I get lost in thought, trying to figure out what to do now as there's no time to light a fire or kasher a BBQ. Suddenly, I see a mechanic working on a motorcycle at a repair shop. I stop and ask him if I can borrow his blow-torch, he gives me his torch and his mouth dropped when he sees me pull out a brightly colored parrot fish from my bag. I sliced it open, fillet it and grilled it with the torch. Made it back to the guesthouse with plenty of time to spare before zman.

The fish tasted amazing BTW (not the best i've had, but definitely elevated my shabbos)

Has anyone else ever tried Parrot Fish?

Re: What are chasidim listening to on their phones
Most of the time I see chasidic men, they are listening to something on their phone Is there some type of gossip hotline?
What happens on chassidish phones, stays on chassidish phones.

Re: What are chasidim listening to on their phones
Interesting that your first thought is a gossip hotline.
They exist. And many do listen to them.

Re: Spreading Fake News Via Whatsapp and Social Media
Why do people jump all over these things? At least a news agency just wants to break a story, but why do people care? A man is dead! It's terrible. It will change nothing if this guy was shot, or burned, or strangled, or hit by a car. There is no public safety concern. What more do we need to know? Imagine this was your family member c"v, would you want people scrambling for this info. Not to mention, there may be info involved that can be extremely shameful to the deceased or their family that definitely doesn't need to make it's rounds. Wish your condolences, and move on. Let the man rest in peace.

Sorry but we canít have it both ways. Social media has turned us into something less than human beings. When what I ate in which restaurant and my latest vacation pics with the wife and or kids becomes everyone elseís business( including on DDF), I have taken what used to be a reshus hayachid, my private life, and deliberately turned it into a reshus harabim. And that creates a sense of entitlement- people feel that they have a right to know what is going on in a reshus harabim. We have taken מה טובו אהליך יעקב, the concept of privacy in our homes and lives that Klal Yisrael once excelled in and discarded it for social media, and the secular concept of putting everything out there in the reshus harabim. Well, thatís what people do in a reshus harabim. They rubberneck.

Re: Spreading Fake News Via Whatsapp and Social Media When I had my accident a few weeks ago, there were so many stories going around whatsapp I couldn't keep track of them.

It was, shall we say, interesting to find out from a fwd that I had gotten arrested for driving with a suspended license.

Re: Its Open Season on Jews
I think much of this is caused by the media feeding into this! (I was just at the Auschwitz exhibit on Battery Park and I left shaking as the climate today is so similar to that of Europe in the 1930s! It's terrifying)
My Auschwitz survivor grandmother has been saying for months that we are reliving the 30's in Europe. She says we are blind and stupid not to pay attention to the anti-Semitism.

Re: Its Open Season on Jews How many Jews can "rational people on Facebook" justify getting shot if 5 Chassidim are dishonest in business?

How many Jews deserve to be hacked by machete if 10 religious Jews scam welfare according to "rational people"?

How many Jewish children can be targeted to be shot dead for every over-zealous Jew trying to buy a house in a rational person's neighborhood?

"If there is a attack, I need any rational person to be able to say this is senseless anti semitism"

To stay or to go? Would you like fries with that? What else do *you* need?

Does an orphaned child need the same, or can his/her standards be a bit lower?

Will the same rational people be ok with me shooting up a country club because a lawyer scammed me?

Can I hack investment fund managers with machetes because of Maddof?

Look, I know you're not justifying it yourself, but what's the difference between that and justifying the justifiers?

Anyone who sees an attack on Jews and says, "it's terrible, but..." is NOT a rational person we need to placate, but a hateful bigot we need to loudly condemn.

If you want to give a musar schmooze, it's Zos Chanukah, there's plenty of inspiration to be found. If you want to find inspiration and a call to action from the tragedies, by all means.

But to stand on the fresh graves of those killed in Jersey City, and atop the blood flowing in Monsey to eck and beck about justifying the murder of Jews because fewer than 100% of the community are absolute paragons of virtue? That sickens me to the core.

Re: Its Open Season on Jews
Name the last great country where Jews had equal protection under the law (1) without being singled out as such (doesn't count if the law specifically refers to Jews) and (2) not subject to the whim of a single person or a small group of people.

The U.S. is a uniquely free country where the protections are so broad and institutional that it never even had to grapple with the question of the Jews.

I agree that anyone (even a survivor) who compares anything here to anything there has some agenda.
If you know any living Holocaust survivor, I suggest you talk to them. Germany was the most cultured country and Jews held extremely high positions across the board. None of them would have ever imagined this to happen in Germany. A diff country, perhaps. But not in Germany.

Re: Irans military leader assassinated
Now deblasioís complaining about it in Twitter
Good, in case we had any doubt it was the right move we can now be sure.
If he's against it, it must've been the right move.
