how long is the wait by the border going to montreal on average? do they do anything more than scanning your passport? Expect delays on Sundays afternoon/evening. Here is a link to check the wait time (it's the 'St-Bernard-de-Lacolle' border crossing), it's updated hourly. If you go by car they usually just ask for papers (if you're a US or Canadian passport holder), if you go by bus, most of the times they ask you to go down with your luggage. I was pleasantly surprised to find a nice verity of Kosher sanwhiches (tune, egg, salami, chicken, and more) in EWR.
