each have pros and cons... we cant make decisions for you cuz we dont know your needs and limits... you will need to read up and decide . keep in mind you can have more then 1:)
FYI, OP is now 3 years older and probably grew up the CC game and DDF hype.

if you are holding a J/F ticket with some segments in Y there is no charge to change if the flight opened up in higher cabin.
IME they don't charge.

They didn't charge me.

But that's only if one leg is initially booked in the higher cabin (such as in AJK's scenario).

If you were to upgrade a clean Y ticket to J or J to F, that would incur the change fee.

Thanks! So if I have a lot of Amex MR, but not so many Chase/United points, it seems the best bet would be to transfer to Krisflyer  to book AC?
