General Discussion / Dept of Sanitation Tickets
« on: February 05, 2013, 02:37:29 PM »
Just to maybe enlighten you folks (certainly those that live in Brooklyn. I don't know about other areas, but I would think it's the same). In the past, if you got a ticket for your garbage - like being out 10 seconds too early, or if it wasn't tied, etc, it was $25. You should be aware that it is now $100 to start and if you don't pay it it goes up to a whopping $300. If you do get a ticket and you feel you shouldn't have gotten one, there's an online site (mentioned on the ticket) where you can fight it. I used the online method so that I wouldn't have to go down. I just got a response from the judge who definitely read my whole issue (I happened to call 311 at the time and I had a number they gave me so that helped too), wrote an entire response and voided the ticket. The reason I'm saying all this is that there is actually a person reading it and answering it seriously.

Just wanted to know what the best card to use (MC, VISA, AMEX) to be covered for collision and whatever else so you can opt out of getting it when you rent a car. I'm going to Miami this time. I'm not talking about points/miles. Any one with experience?

Up In The Air / what miles are worth
« on: December 16, 2012, 02:03:52 PM »
I'm sure this was discussed many times before but I can't find it. So feel free to point me in the right direction. I would like just an approximation of what American Miles are worth and SPG miles. A guesstamate is fine.
The reason I got into this question is because I'm trying to get a flight for Purim to Miami Beach from NY (2/21 leave NY around 3pm, back 2/25 leave around 8pm) and the prices are crazy. Regular AA mileage awards aren't very available either. So if it's worth it, compared to the dollar price, maybe I would up the mileage. Anyway, not much luck with the flight or the condo on Collins. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

On The Road / Purim on Collins in Miami Beach
« on: December 04, 2012, 11:26:44 AM »
For a number of years we go to Miami Beach for Purim and spend it with other couples from NY. Each year I look for a place to stay on Collins around 50th to be near our friends who have their own condos so that we can have Shabbos and Purim meals together. We have rented condos in a few of the buildings but have never been happy with the accomodations. Does anyone know a nice condo in the area for a reasonable amount of money from around Feb 21 thru Feb 25? Thanks. Mutty

General Discussion / Getting a text message
« on: September 13, 2012, 10:57:16 AM »
It says there's a way to get a text message every time dansdeals is updated. It says to go through twitter. I have a twitter account but never use it. When I click on getting text messages it goes to twitter and shows me dansdeals. I have no clue what to do to get the text messages. Any help on that?

Tech Talk / GPS fo r rental in Israel
« on: July 27, 2011, 05:33:58 PM »
I'm planning on a trip shortly to Israel. I checked out GPS rentals and they're around $15/day. It turns out that Garmin has maps for Israel and it costs $99. Doesn't work on all models. You have to check. It's cheaper for me to by the maps and keep them. A couple years ago this was not available. Just wanted to let the folks know.
P.S. Obviously I haven't tried it yet. I'll give a report when I return
