Traveling with point Thanksgiving weekend

I've been trying to book a flight from NYC-Chicago for thanksgiving weekend with points. Obviously it's gonna be limited (BA wants 24k avios for a oneway for EWR- ORD!)
Any tips or tricks to find a good award ticket? Thanks

BA NYC-Chicago should be 15k Avios round trip, how did you get to 24k?

they only have firstclass tickets available for award travel. obviously not worth it for a 2h flight on an E75
