Best way to update apps?

I recall reading somewere that instead of updating apps in iOS, it's better to delete and redownload the newer version. I'm unsure if the purported benefit was in the running of the app, or just in terms of the amount of memory the app takes up. Anyone ever hear of such a thing?

Speaking as a CS student, it makes sense that they have fixed this issue by now. Apple is not some little startup that doesnt have the resources to implement fixes to known issues.
