The problem is Norton and other major antivirus protection will not stop something like “Win 7 Antispyware 2012”. They are reactive and not pro active.
That's malware, not what they call a virus. I can't say I agree with their definitions, but the V companies make that distinction.
The point is not what they call it but that they have a terrible time stopping new attacks.
how would you compare norton/MSE/(windows defender?)/AVG as far as resource hogging. using on a low power machine (netbook etc.)?
I would go with MSE.

Caution...other than that, if you are happy with what you have been using, keep using it.
