if a family member has elite status, is there anyway i can use that for my trip , if he is not flying with me? we have the same last name.

No. Probably didn't need a new thread.

ETA: When I first got my card they made a mistake and my first and last name were switched. As a result it couldn't automatically be added to my own trip! Everything had to be done manually.
