Missed connection / canceled ticket advice

I book 3 tickets EWR - IST - KBP sep 2nd, I booked it on ukraine air website.
The first lag Ewr - IST was on Turkish air metal and the IST - KBP was on ukraine air metal.

I used chase sapphire preferred card

The first flight was delayed by 4 hours and 33 minutes, causing me to miss the connecting flight.  And subsequently causing them to cancel the rerun flight as well because I missed the 2nd lag.

There were no flights from Turkish or ukraine to get me to KBP before yom tov.
I booked myself a low budget flight for $150 each.

What can / should I do now ??

next time book through an agent and not airline website, worth the extra $50 they might add on...as far as this time goes, you can trying contacting airline / dot complaint / partial dispute on cc ...

I booked a ticket for a friend (same last name as me) TLV-IST-MIA on Turkish with a CSR.
A slight delay in TLV caused him to miss his connection. The agent in IST rebooked him on the next flight 14 hours later. No hotel/food vouchers or anything. What can I do to help him? What would Chase reimburse?

Ask if you can get routed via NY
