What is said in public and in private are two different things. IMHO it has always been this way and I see no sign of it ever changing (Israel's right to protect its national security).
Agreed, but don't forget the other parts of the article in which other administration officers wanted to threaten Israel with isolation or other stuff should they go ahead with the attack. The concern is that this approach could someday take over.
