Account Notifications and SMS Alerts

A family member of mine called me this morning that (probably) all of the companies from whom he was getting SMS notification alerts have sent him a text message confirming cancellation of alerts despite him never requesting this. Is there anything for him to be worried about? (Companies include Chase, E-Z-Pass, etc. totaling about 6-7 companies.)

Did he just change service provider?

Did he just change service provider?
That was my initial thought. Do you have any experience with provider changes causing such things?

He called chase and they confirmed that there's no suspicious activity on his account.

I don't know if he asked them specifically about that, but they did say that they see nothing suspicious.
