Kosher Camera?
« on: December 28, 2018, 12:43:47 PM »
Someone recently asked me what makes a camera kosher? (In response to an ad they had seen for a store offering a 'Kosher' Camera) I was a little perplexed by this. I've heard of kosher phones that disable Internet use, but a camera? What could possibly be wrong with a Camera?

I am not so much attacking or being snarky as I am genuinely curious.

How does that make it any more kosher? Is there a browser on the camera?

I would guess the playback but not the actual taking a video.

I can't tell if you're joking or not. But I highly doubt a camera would be able to do that effectively.

So now I am more confused than I was before asking the question.

I understand that people are of the opinion that the internet isn't kosher, but wi-fi on a camera is only to upload pictures/videos you've taken to your cloud account. I would assume that any Individual who agrees that the internet is Treif, wouldn't have either a home wi-fi network, OR a cloud storage account - so the feature is actually useless. Is this some kind of Avak Avodah Zarah prohibition?

I get the video playback component of Camera being a backhanded way to watch videos on SD cards - but ANY video camera allows for some degree of playback. Does this mean that chassidim in general don't take videos of weddings, bar mitzvahs, etc? (I realize that this might be a stupid question, because they don't have anything to play the videos back on, but I am nevertheless curious)
