A few days at the end of Jan rooms were pricing at $999 per night (Grand Lux) now they dropped suddenly to $639. Really Strange.

Are cribs really not allowed in the deluxe rooms? The luxe rooms allow a crib and both the deluxe and luxe are the same size.

Hotel is definitely playing around, I know a few people that cancelled reservations for points rooms and it did not go back into inventory.

A quiq work around this might work [ at St Regis they actually block room type but at other properties it works ]

When booking Marriott/spg award reservation there usually needs to be a base room. Sometimes though, the base room may be available but not for points and a message will pop up saying "this hotel does not take award reservation at this time" [ clicking >< does not help ]. The solution is to make the reservation on different dates and call the hotel directly  [or ask marriot to contact the hotel] and ask them to change the dates.

The name of the system where marriot/spg can  change dates is called Fossi [not sure if spelled correctly]. I'm not sure central Marriott can do it but on hotel level they definitely can.
One caveat, this will most likely will only work if there the same  room type . If there is same room room then the system will force itself  to initiate to a new reservation which will not work because there are no base rooms available.

This is my understanding, if any1 has better work arounds, please post.

I did this for the Residents Inn Surfside on blocked dates  and worked like a charm.

Legacy Marriott (Capacity controls) vs legacy SPG (No capacity controls)
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

It's not a matter of smarter it's a matter of knowing how to work the system and the reservation manager being flexible.

I did this at a different St Regis, so I assume it's not really the method it's more your attitude when calling and if they are willing to make an exception and be flexible. .

If the base room type is avail, you can just book a rev stay, and then call MT and have them manually attach a cert.

Didn't try with cert.

I did try with points your method doesn't work.

Then why -1? He specifically said cert.Athough I thought all Marriott points actually convert into certs and are booked like that.

Maybe something to do with trying to raise the average price per night in 2018, considering how many points bookings they probably got last year..

I am currently staying here and bought somebody’s free nights who is platinum. Upon checkin they told me that unless the person who is platinum member shows up to the hotel I won’t get any platinum benefits (i.e. room upgrade, free breakfast, 4pm late checkout).

I didn’t put up a fight but is that accurate?

Why shouldn’t they? It’s not like they’re losing rooms that way.

But giving elite benefits actually effects their bottom line, so they need to find a way out.
