0% APR card comparisions
« on: January 08, 2019, 01:23:48 PM »
Hi all, i'm looking to get a 0% APR card, need to move a balance. The barclays arrival has 70k point sign up and 12 months 0% APR.

I could pull off the spend, just curious if theres a better option. thanks!

The Barclays card is a personal card which will show the balance on your credit report. Rather get a business card with a 0% apr which won't show your balance on your report.

Amex limits BT to $7500 or 75% of the CL, whichever is less. (You could MS the rest though.)

Are you one of those guys who offers this as a service (charge 5% to move it to a 0% APR card)?

Not sure the exact details you're referring to. But I do have experience doing this type of work. And pricing varies on many different factors.

If I were someone else on DDF I’d scream and yell at you about how you’re taking advantage of other people who could just apply for the 0% APR cards themselves..

If you know me you'd know that quite the opposite. I try my hardest not to charge money. You can ask others on ddf that I actually coach people to do this on their own (and give free advice)
in my experience people tend to mess up really badly putting in the applications and that's why I am willing to do it for them and therefore have to charge a fee for my time.
Another point is allot of people with a decent amount of debt won't be able to get a lot of zero apr cards with the outstanding debt which is another thing we need to get rid of before applying...

So no I'm not doing this to make money rather I do it as a favor. But if it will take me time to sit with them and put through the apps or put it through for them I'm forced to charge for my time.

And a side note I don't charge anywhere near 5 percent.

Cool. Btw I actually am totally cool with you charging whatever you want for whatever you do. Somebody doesn't like it, they don't need to utilize your services.. if they do, then they made the cheshbon that it's worth it for them, so why shouldn't you charge it?

That said, there are many others on here who disagree with me. Socialism, anyone?

I'd like to add one interesting story to make my point:

I have a friend who's uncle has a glasses store, and is also well known for being skilled at fixing broken glasses very nicely. Once, a woman came in with her son's expensive broken glasses and asked if he could fix it. He said, "Sure, it's $75." She thought about it and decided that it's worth it, as they costed over $500. He took them, told his other customers to hold on, and while she waited, welded the broken pieces together in around 30 seconds and handed it back to her.

She was very taken aback. "You're charging me $75 for that?" she asked. He replied, "Sorry, you're right." He took the glasses, pulled the pieces back apart, and said, "Leave them here, they'll be ready in 2 weeks."

I think I've made my point.

Also true. You should do as much chesed as you can. Also, you can charge whatever you like when you don't want (or can't afford) to be doing chesed. It's nobody else's business, and they can take it or leave it.
