As opposed to?
Most people would use American or Cheddar.

Because that's what Costco sells in C"Y slices :)
And that was the best part of it.

American and Cheddar are two very different kinds of cheese.

Because that's what Costco sells in C"Y slices :)
And that was the best part of it.

IME they also sell a tray with a variety of cheeses which IINM include cheddar, pepper jack, and others.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Must have not used a very good pickle.

Tell us more about the pickle. What kind was it? Batampte? Israeli in brine? Israeli in vinegar? Gherkin? Or maybe some "kosher pickle"?

True, people use all sorts of different cheeses on burgers, the most common being American and Cheddar, Gouda and Monterey Jack are also common.

The question is still how much of this is real and how much is just hype / everyone being afraid to trigger the vegan mob by saying it's not quite as great as it's made out to be.

Haven't seen a negative review yet . The CES is one of the largest conventions on the strip annually. I have a hard time believing thats all out of "fear of the vegan mob."
Good news is we don't have to speculate for long.
Hitting some restaurants this month, and the rest in February.

Good question. We shall wait and see.

From what I've seen in EY veggie burgers and veggie hotdogs are very common with frum families (to the extent that נקניקיה - the Hebrew word for hotdog, without a qualifier is used to refer to a soy based hotdog). It might be a matter of availability or pricing. I am guessing that if impossible burger 2.0 is priced right, and provides a significant improvement over current soy based alternatives, while it might not take major hold in the US (and even more so in a country like Argentina), it will have a significant market.

What I used to eat in yeshiva was not a נקניקיה qualifier or not  :P

Those are deadly.

Is that arguing with me or proving my point?

IDK, last time I checked it was the consumer Electronics Show. I'm not sure what a burger is doing there other than shtick/hype. I find it hard to believe that nobody is thinking "WTF is this doing at CES?" but is too afraid to say tha out loud.

(If it's really that good let's see it compete with real food, I'm not sure being the best burger in a room full of TVs and robots is such a big deal)

I think @chaim'l said it well
I think that all the hype is from vegans who are overly enthusiastic about any meat substitute

ALOL
1. It's been many years since. They might have improved.
2. If they weren't so popular, no sign was needed.
3. Back then it was qualified מן הצומח. In recent years I've head it referred to (and sold in fast food places) without a qualifier.
4. TBH that segulah applies also to the Fleishig variety. I haven't eaten salami for more than 30 years, and hotdogs are more recent, but I don't eat those either for the last several years.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
