Not to paint Spirit in a better-than-deserved light, but:
My friend had booked flights for 5 pax from NYC to Miami in August with them. About a week before flying she decided to cancel due to covid and some of the travelers high risk status. They offered her a voucher but she emailed them about getting a full refund instead, citing the Delta variant and the inability for the young kids to get vaccinated. Lo and behold they refunded her the full amount of her cancelled tickets today!

Simple, between the two options to finalize a decision now, I think FREE screams more than NO COST.

Since they prefer customers to check in online vs in the airport - to save time and resources - they choose to use the FREE option for to trigger customers to choose that option.

Makes sense but right above they claim it's $10 to check in at airport

They charge you if you check in with an agent. You can check in for free at a kiosk.

+1. Flew EWR-MCO and TPA-LGA with Spirit this week and they were great both times - especially on the return. I think my 3yo only had his mask on literally from the end of the jetbridge to our seats, and the other kids barely kept their's on. I prefer this too, but on our flights this week where we didn't pay for seats we were given A-F.

So instead, I used the push on style LATCH connectors on my car seat (Evenflo Stratos, but any convertible with these style connectors would work) to attach to stroller hooks (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MU35UL6/) on my stroller (Britax B-Agile, but most strollers that size and up should work). Highly recommend it.
