We flew spirit a week ago Sunday, the beginning of all the "weather" delays. Inspired by this thread, I purchased the Capitol One travel insurance for $40 a seat. And yes, the savings with bags and all were still super significant over any other airline.

When our flight got delayed, we weren't concerned because we could rebook on any airline through Cap1. We ended up sticking it out, took off just 2 hours late, and got our flights refunded through the insurance.

To Den we left the gate but a technical issue caused a delay of about an hour.
We bid $8 a seat for an exit row which was accepted so we had plenty of legroom.
Landed about 45 minutes past schedule. Was not strict on checking carryon size.

Den-Mia they were super strict on carryon size. We ended up paying for one and stuffing it so the other fit. We played it cool and as a compromise the gate agent gave us the exit row haha. Landed about 30 minutes before schedule.

Savings were significant over every other airline.

did insurance refund the original tickets because of 2 hours delay? Or did u purchase knew tickets and that was refunded

Friend missed outbound flight on spirit, Is there any chance that the return flight will still be usable ?

Upon checking on spirit, I don't see any indication that the return flight has been canceled, and they still allow to purchase bags/seats.

You put high hopes on the fact that they allowed purchasing seats/bags, now go ahead and beg for a refund on those... Wonder if they'll issue those easily.

I didn't actually buy at that point, since it was 99% chance they would end up canceling.

Instead bought new united flight thru LM for less then spirit!
