DW has flown Spirit on a number of occasions, and has fully appraised me of what it's been like. Based her her experiences, I have determined to try to never fly the airline.

I will pay significantly more to avoid flying Spirit, and so far, I've never been in a situation when tickets on other airlines were so much more that it would compensate the extra charges Spirit gifts you with.

I have flown them and had a positive experience, it's a "cheaper" version of travel.

I always buy a good seat.

At times it can be significantly better priced then competitors thus making it worthy even after factoring in the seat cost....

1) Spirit doesn't charge for "things most other airlines give for free" because airlines don't give anything for free.
When you fly Delta, you HAVE to pay for your 6 ounce diet coke pretzels, your cabin bag, seat selection your seat in your airfare. It's not free.
When you fly spirit, you can choose not to pay and therefore not receive.

2)Delta, American, and JetBlue don't allow passengers to take a better seat when open. I know this because I've been denied a better seat by them all recently.

Just had Spirit cancel my cheap tix. Bummer.

They are offering a $50 voucher in addition to the Reservation Credit via the cancellation SMS system. Though there are DPs stating that this voucher is only good for part of the fare and not the “fees” which are part of the fare.

Anyone have insight on this?

Everyone realizes that you are not getting five star service if you fly on a budget airlines. A lot of kinks that can come up, I would imagine are a result of the airlines being on a limited budget so less resources are used to iron them out. Therefore I find it a little unreasonable to complain about every thing that goes wrong on a spirit (or lack thereof) flight. You want better service and higher standards? Pay more for your darn ticket! You get what you pay for.
