Using BA points to get to tokyo on AA

I called ba today to book a rt flight from new york-tokyo.  I had already gone on aa and figured out which flights would work and all that.  Everything was going fine until he told me there would be $770 (ironic no?) in fees.  Obviously I didn't book it so I was wondering how I can book the flight without paying the surcharge.  Do I just tell him I tried to book it online but it wouldn't let me?  Thanks!

I tried booking AA online with BA going to Aisa and it showed YQ (fuel charges) on the flights. no other airline was used except AA

Searched LAX-NRT on AA from BA.com:
YQ: 670.00
Total taxes, fees and surcharges per person: 755.50

how about LGA-MIA for sometime in Jan 2012 using BA miles for AA flights? What does the surcharge look like?

did that and i get the red error message of death saying no availability for those dates, and then prompts me: do I want to try the next seven days availability?

I looked for a flight LHR-DCA with AA using BA miles and got the fuel charges added on ($318~ in taxes). Is there any way around it? Can I sue BA for calling it a fuel charge that goes to the other airline when the other airline does not even charge it?

Anyone want to  make a round-up of where BA is still worthwhile to use, for those of us that have several hundred thousand left?

I believe a US48 to Hawaii would be on the list, but not sure of the details.
