in search of new zemiros tunes
« on: February 01, 2019, 12:30:44 AM »
I'm looking for new non standard tunes for zemiros. For example i really like the dror yikra sang to simon and garfunkels scarborough fair (if you're interested i found someone has it up on youtube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea1m-HDZ6xM). I would really like to find more zemiros that have good tunes put to them. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

There are plenty of not so common tunes for zemirosthat are also traditional that you should be able to find if you ask around enough

Wow - I only have so much time on a Friday Afternoon:

I get why some people don't appreciate non-jewish songs being used for zmiros/davening - I just consider it being ma'alin b'kodesh :)

- In that Vein Dror Yikra to Sloop John B - https://youtu.be/nYBgkpv5fXs?t=227
- More traditionally Dror Yikra in the classic sefardi version - https://youtu.be/r4B6yL3LH7c

Can't find them on youtube/interwebs with limited time, but a lot of the classic choirs have zemiros out there - I often use Tzlil V'zemer (I think)'s Rachem B'Chasdecha as part of a 'Tzor Mishelo' medley. My wife loves the MBC Menucha V'Simcha

not sure maalin bkodesh has anything to do with this, although they say some chassidic rebbes "sanctified" some non jewish songs

You mean like 'Ha'aderes v'Haemunah' on Shabbos morning to the tune of Les' Marsellies? :)
