Author Topic: Cancel Ukraine Air ticket due to medical reasons (Read 2914 times)

Hi,

I bought tickets back in September when there was a price glitch? for around $300 a ticket, flight is next week. Now one of the passengers can't fly due to medical reasons with a letter from a doctor. Should i try to cancel with Ukraine direct, or rather buy travel insurance & then cancel.

Officially they refund for medical reasons but can be a pain to get the refund, best way is to email them.

If you just cancel outright, they refund the taxes plus the YQ/YR which in this case is almost the whole ticket (only works if you booked directly with them and it's not within 24 hours of the flight), easiest way to do this is on messenger.com @ UIAhelper and type in "talk to agent".

Not at all! That’s exactly what travel insurance is for.
Most airlines only will cancel in case of death c”v of the passenger or first degree relative.

That's not true. All airlines (that I know of) will let you cancel for medical reasons for close relatives.

I agree with @yelped , we a few cancellations during the years with several airlines with a medical report, all refunded.

I lately got refunded from Ukraine international for medical reasons and it wasn't that complicated.... was done thru email ..... contact@flyuia.com

I had a Passenger with LY that had a appendicitis, and was only given vouchers, not a full refund, and With JetBlue a Passenger had the flu and also only got credit to their Travel Bank.

Emailed them, & they replied that I can cancel, as I have a valid reason, but that I should contact Priceline.

What are my chances with Priceline?

I don't know about airlines, but with hotels, Priceline once told me that if the hotel allows that cancellation, they will refund fully.

You left that part out of you op. Priceline is the only one that can cancel this tkt. No experience with that. But good luck . And rb.

I had the same and they just refunded me after I sent in a doctor's letter.

Priceline emailed me yesterday that ukraine will refund my ticket in full.

I booked directly with UIA.
I emailed them the problem and they responded:

" Information that is necessary for special conditions of date change should contain the diagnosis, date of application to the medical institution, duration of disease.
Please, note the medical certificate must be signed by attending doctor, and stamped by doctor and hospital stamp."

Unfortunately, the letter I had already gotten from the doctor made it sound as if the problem has been ongoing for an extended time. So they denied me.
I responded that at the time I made the tickets, I didn't know he'd still be sick.
They responded that I can have a refund of the taxes of $275 per ticket.
I took their offer.
