marriott rewards credit card.
« on: June 12, 2009, 10:47:55 AM »
this card is definitely a "wannabe" Starwood card. but like every wannabe (e.g. palm pre ) they know they are not the best and therefore come up with (seemingly) better offers to lure you in. Marriott is currently offering their Visa card for first year no annual fee, after its $30. PLUS! every year you receive 10 free nights at the cards anniversary. not too shabby! what do you guys think?

Marriott's point structure is significantly less valuable than SPG.
And you don't get 10 free nights, you merely get 10 credits towards elite status as if you had paid for 10 nights...
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I opened last August this card for my wife (before I understood quiet a bit about which CC's to apply for etc)
Being that this was her first card from chase and with a high credit limit (previously with other 2 cc's high was $750, this card is now at 12k) is there a card that this could be converted into? As I don't want to pay the af.

In April I did a successful 3BM with chase for her and she got the Sapphire Preferred, United Explorer, and Freedom MC.
I only paid 15% by switching to dansdeals

The Marriott card card I just signed up for was a sign up bonus of 50k with an additional 20k match to the 70k offer plus 1free night in a cat. 1-5 (a 25k value) for a total of 95k after $1000 spend. Vs. Spg which is 25k after $5000 spend. The point redemptions are about double Spg (cat. 1-7.5k, cat. 2- 10k, cat. 3- 15k etc.) In addition u get 1 free night per year in a cat. 1-4.
For me persinally, Spg us good on some occasions, but they don't seem to have many properties in the northeast. For instance,
CT: Spg- 5, Marriott- 38
NJ: Spg- 15, Marriott- 74
NY: Spg- 34, Marriott- 118
RI: Spg- 1 :o , Marriott- 13

Though Marriott doesn't have c&p, Spg has just made c&p fairly unattractive by increasing both c&p.

Though when booking my Niagara hotel Spg kicked Marriott.
Marriott also doesn't really have an airline transfer program.

All in all I like to have a fair amount of all different kinds of hotel  rewards, though I still think Marriott sign up bonus is better than Spg
