Air France luggage requirements

Does anyone have familiarity with Air France's international on board luggage requirements/allowances? Flying from DC to Tel Aviv. Is Air France overly strict?

Their website is a little confusing regarding what dimensions and weights are allowed.

Does a regular backpack and a typical hatbox (from hatbox) seem ok? Or perhaps a small 4 wheeled suitcase?

Your travel cabin is shown on your booking and on your ticket. Your cabin baggage must not exceed 55cm x 35cm x 25cm. Your accessory must not exceed 40cm x 30cm x 15cm. The total combined weight of your cabin baggage and accessory must not exceed 12kg or 18kg, depending on your specific travel cabin.
