Deals for MS Office
« on: September 16, 2011, 12:57:47 PM »
Anyone know of any good deals for MS Office?

Alternatively, anyone who's used some of the alternatives nad has an opinion on that, I'd be interested in hearing that, too!

If you know anyone in college/grad school, they can often get very good pricing on MS products.

Kingsoft Office 2012 is almost a replica of Microsoft Office 2003, and it's only about 65 MB big. It has a writer, spreadsheet program, and a presentation program. It's like the chinese version of Office, and it's free. Though it opens docx formats, however, unfortunately, it doesn't have a default option to save docx files. Check it out here: http://www.kingsoftstore.com/office-suite-free.html.
Once installed, go to Tools>Options>General and Save (tab)
In Measurement units, click on Inches, and uncheck "Use Character Units"
In save, click on your preferred save format (generally .doc)
Press OK, and now you have an exact lookalike to Office 2003!

That's pretty cool, I think my wife needs some of the features on the most recent version of Office, though.

Thank you!

In my school you get a free copy of Office.
All that for only 50k.

While it's better than nothing, you're right - kinda like saying, "buy our helicopter, and we'll thrown in a FREE ice cream cone!"

try open office:

www.openoffice.org

OpenOffice.org 3 is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.

Or libreoffice... but it sounds like she needs feature from the newest MS Office features which I truly doubt will be in these yet. In any case OO and LO have been discussed thorughly already.

Don't know if it's the same for everywhere, or if students and faculty are the same, but the nYU computer store said that the newest version would cost $65 for faculty.

I got MS Office Professional Plus 2010 with 3 Licenses for $139. I am pretty sure this is a great deal.

It's still going for one more hour (runs on Pacific time). It's a Chinese ripoff of Microsoft Office. It's really awesome.

There are several websites that sell the Academic version of Office 2010 for a steep discount.  It is the full version of Office 2010 Professional, but with a package that says Academic Use Only.  It is 100% the same as the full pro version, and allows for three installations.  Enjoy!

Do you officially have to be a student, do you have to prove it?
