What has that got to do anything with overbooking? Here's how LY works, every Flight gets a certain amount of X (Business award) seats. Most cases of overbooking is when you booked X far out and later the flight sold out. For flights that you see space within 1-2weeks to departure date you won't get bumped as that flight is not full or else there would not be X available.

Up until now most elal flights I was on had empty seats no problem with overbooking  now they might start selling out all their x seats

its a fair assumption
that more X will be booked thru QF
and QF Avail will go down

and in turn if other flights get delayed bumped canceled etc.
you will in turn have more bumps

Qf has nothing to do how LY releases X. As explained upthread elal will first release X way ahead of time those are the ones to get bumped.  Because if you see 2 weeks before flight X 100% that flight won't be sold out (unless delays or can etc) or else there would be no X available.

Me

Am thinking elal will be quick to find any reason to bump these flyers who are getting a 'deal', who are flying  at expense of their own frequent flyers, if that's true.

Especially worried about booking an elderly person like the OP. For myself, not such  a big deal.

But they will get you there. Just not in the class you wanted.

exactly.

This is OT, but i had a taste of elal recently. Booked 2 pax in Y. They wanted 2 aisle seats in the middle section because they like the aisle and also in case there is an empty in the middle. Rep would not allow that. The HUCA rep said the first rep noted not to allow it. She was willing to do it, but said since it was noted the airport staff might change the seating.

If flying to or from USA, wouldn't DoT rules about bumping come into play? And doesn't IL have it's own laws?
