I don't understand how they can not give you comp. Is there something in the terms and conditions of using miles that allows them to just not give you what you paid with miles for?
LY will give you the difference in miles back if you booked with Matmid.

Happened to me about a month ago. Booked in J thru QF. The flight was overbooked due to the EWR flight being delayed 5 hours and they bumped me to economy.

No, there isn't. And I believe I have recording speaking with the airport agent to back it up.

But this is not the only issue. This is the last issue.

We gotta talk

a. Why do they officially overbook their planes?

b. When they officially overbook why don't they look for volunteers?

c.  Why won't they bother to do anything a little complicated in order to make things work? For example, switching a pax from jfk flight who is willing to volunteer from biz to economy to accommodate 75 year old lady from Newark plane being bumped. (explained in detail on other post)

And last, compensation. In airport they for sure don't offer. They don't even apologize. They just say sorry you're first on list to be bumped take it or leave it. I would guess when you email customer relations you will get a stunning $300 cert to use on elal flights..

Why would you expect any different from ELAL?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Seems like they feel that for QF tickets, they aren't the ones responsible to give comp, only QF. (not getting into the arguement whether that's the right approach or not - just differentiating)

I had a passenger who was bumped from J to Y TLV to AMS on a revenue ticket (paid about $775 pp.) and this is the unedited email I received from the passenger (past end of Jan)

"Hey- they bumped us out of business to coach, but paid us $1100, gave us 3 seats in coach, and all the business class stuff (lounge, etc). What happened that pushed us out, and how do we know if it wont happen again?"
This was a couple, and it seems they were quite nice to them about it (like giving them an extra seat) besides for the comp offered immediately. So apparently it's very much YMMV (or YAMV - Your Attitude May Vary?), and likely QF booked passengers are treated as lower class citizens...
