I will update once process is done bez"h. It should be noted that I have no army duties, haven't lived in Israel as an adult so I believe no Bituach Leumi or any other financial obligations.

For now I do have some tips on how to get a birth certificate with an Apostille in one day in NYC (it's time consuming and annoying, but doable and you know you have the documents you need in hand, not relying on mail or bureaucratic turnaround. Obviously needing to get 11 of those is more of an incentive to spend the time).

Oh. I am in the process of getting all the documents (will them work on translations). My biggest delay is probably getting a birth certificate with Apostille from South Africa. I believe I have everything else in place.

Searching Jewishgen.org came up with Lithuanian Internal Passport applications for my ancestors, along with specific Archive/Fond/Inventory/File information. I emailed the Lithuanian Central State Archive, got a quote for the copies, sent funds (don't use regular bank wire, in my case I needed to pay 4.80 EUR, and their bank charged them more than that in incoming wire fees, I then sent the funds using wise.com) and had copies in a couple of days.

Can't get rid of it soon enough (though with the latest news from Europe, I'm not sure Lithuania will still exist as an independent nation by the time I get all the documents I need to get my citizenship there, so that I have a second passport).

Taxation without representation. It has cost me money and time throughout the years with no benefit.

Why wouldn't I? Should I keep it for the theoretical benefit of being able to travel to Russia without needing an expensive visa?

Of all the posters on the forum that are likely to travel to Russia, I'd guess you're probably in the top 5% at least.

Did the NYC one, (for someone else) had to go to two or three offices downtown and got it right away

If only SA allowed LT citizens without having to apply for a visa, as not eligible for visa on arrival.

Any other suggestions on getting the SA birth certificate with Apostille? A country like SA surely should have some machers that can get it done for a few $ within a reasonable timeframe.

NYC Apostille is doable in one day if you know what you're doing and get the birth certificates with letter of exemplification early enough (and not on a Wednesday) to go to the county clerk and the to the DOS in the same day.

I am thinking that it might actually be good if the RL"B camp brings up the law stating that a person with an outstanding indictment may not become prime minister.

They will just further expose their Bolshevik anti-democratic nature, the law should not withstand legal challenges (though with the way the current Israeli legal system runs, one never knows).
