Why is it that serving in the upper echelon of security forces can make you "a rising star in Israeli politics". Why does that give you any political skills?
Maybe some management skills, but why are they more attractive "potential rising stars" than crossovers from the business world, or promotions from municipal level?
Because in Israel military commanders are perceived as committed, proven, and dependable leaders, likely a result of universal military service and constant security threats.
The IDF has 22 ex-chiefs, and 14 of them became elected politicians, most in senior positions.
Israel had 12 Prime Minsters, of which 2 were IDF chiefs and another 7 were prominent military/intelligence figures.
