He managed to put together some form of minority rule over the majority to "save democracy"

He just poured more fuel on the fire and setting up the country for even worse turmoil and friction. He should be impeached and the office of Israeli President eliminated, but the Bolsheviks played their cards well so doing so now wouldn't look good.

One thing that stands out as nonsensical is to have 3 MKs on the committee but only one can be from the coalition and 2 from the opposition. How does that make any sense at all? Did he put any thought into it at all?

And you didn't even mention the poison pill that is:

Quote
11. A Basic Law that was in effect before the publication of this document will be considered as accepted according to the Basic Law: The Legislation, and the provisions of the Basic Law: The Legislation as stipulated in this document will apply to it.

While making it close to impossible to repeal or enact new ones (requiring a 70 or 80 MK majority).

The three ministers are also chosen by the coalition, so the coalition essentially has 4 representatives on the committee.

ETA: They also choose the two representatives of the public, though that has to be approved by President of the court.

This from a guy who is quoted as being against the reforms.
https://www.israelnationalnews.com/news/368804
Alan Dershowitz: 'Judicial reforms don't threaten democracy'

Quote
Leading US attorney Prof. Alan Dershowitz, who has voiced his opposition to Israel's judicial reform plan in the past, now admits that despite his opposition, the legislation would not make Israel any less democratic.

During a Zoom debate with legal scholar Eugene Kontorovich organized by J-AIR Jewish radio on the subject of the reforms, Dershowitz insisted that the majority of opposition to the reform is due to the fact that a right-wing government is proposing it. "If exactly the same proposals were being made by a centrist government, or left-wing government, no one would notice," he claimed. "There would be no demonstrations. There would be some academic discussion, law school teachers would be teaching it, but hardly anyone would care."

He added that in his 60 years of following such issues, he's never heard of a demonstration genuinely about judicial reform. "It's not about judicial reform, it's about the fact that the reform is being put forward by a government that frightens a lot of people, a government that includes some extreme right-wing people," the professor alleged.

Despite his opposition to most of the reforms, Dershowitz added that, "Even if all of these reforms were to be enacted, it would turn Israel, G-d forbid, into Canada, New Zealand, or Australia, or many European countries. It would not turn it into Poland, or an autocratic country."

"There are extremes on both sides," he continued, "and alongside a need for compromise, there really is a need for some reform ... Reform will not undercut democracy," he stressed. "In some respects, it would make Israeli more democratic."

It's ridiculous. Was he playing a game the entire time? He didn't even throw a bone to the right.
What do you expect, he comes from the Labour party.

It's time to make a right wing demo in kikar Rabin, remind them who won the election

So....

It seems like the judges called in the prosecution in regards to the "4000 portfolio" and told them that they don't really have a case to get Netanyahu convicted on bribery.

Surprisingly, this is being reported by "journalists" who are constantly being fed leaks by the prosecution and hate Netanyahu.

Next week Arnon Milchan is supposed to testify in regards to the "1000 portfolio" in a procedure that probably doesn't hold water in Israeli law or UK law (where the questioning will take place and will be videoconferenced to Jerusalem). Oddly the judges decided to withhold a ruling regarding the admissibility of the testimony at this point (most likely it will be inadmissible, as it is not done in any way that the witness can be held accountable for his words). I have seen someone suggest that Netanyahu's attorneys should declare upon entry that they are coming to conduct the questioning of a witness, something that would require a proper visa, which was never requested (or granted). While no one will admit to it, the reason Milchan won't come to Israel to testify (and didn't even come for his own mother's funeral) is that he fears prosection for serious tax evasion (which might have been aided and abetted by Lapid).

These criminals dragged the country through numerous elections and millions spent on false accusations and trial, all to overthrow Netanyahu, just because they couldn't beat him at the polls. Unfortunately, I doubt whether there will be any recrimination.

Meanwhile, the latest day of testimony in Netanyahu's trial revealed that the legal inquiry into Netanyahu's alleged actions/activities was conducted in VIOLATION OF ISRAELI LAW which requires PRE-APPROVAL of the AG (which was not granted) for such an investigation.
