Not an emergency landing. It is passing over many airports on its way back.

Probably going back to IST due to new UK restrictions. They may not be allowed to land.

My sympathies to everyone affected but I can't wait for the movie on this in 5 years or so.

This is literally a plot happening in real time, can you imagine what's doing in the boeing conference room literally as we speak?

Based on the reports of smoke coming out of the back of the ET plane, I doubt it's the same issue as the LionAir crash. The grounding is a knee-jerk (understandable) reaction.

I was sitting yesterday at the gate in LGA when an older gentleman walks up to the gate agent whispering with a super serious face: “it’s not the 737 Max we’re flying today, right?”

Gate agent (with a confused smile): “No..”

Older gentleman: “Ok, fine, thank you” then turns around and walks away visibly calmer..
