Why don't people then bake all of their own matzahs? Sugar? Chocolate?

What is the line of things that are allowed to be produced elsewhere?

I know of one family that bakes their own matzah, but for most people it's simply not practical. I know quite a few that don't use sugar. And many that will cook the sugar before Pesach, and won't use chocolate.

So it's basically Matzos and Wine that are almost universally not produced at home (though for wine that might still mean homemade wine - just not at my own home, rather by someone else I trust).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Why is an individual's wine more trustworthy that Eidah Charedis wine? You personally use zero externally processed foods other than matzah? Do you milk the cows yourself (pasturization and added minerals)?

This reminds me of the Mishnah in Pesachim that talks about whether you need to redo your bedikah in case a mouse brings in a piece of bread, and the masknah is Ein L'Dvar Sof.

But we don't therefore say not to bother checking. Rather, you do what you can and that's it. So the question here is what's considered normal and what is extreme. It is a subjective question, and no use arguing, no one will change anyone else's mind.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but I feel like there must be a way for someone who doesn't eat any processed food on Pesach to avoid milking any cows...

Any commercial wine has additives. My wife and most of the kids don't go for dry wine, so it's Eidah Charedis certified wine for them.

I try to avoid comercially processed foods as much as possible.

I don't milk the cows myself, and don't really use dairy, as there's not much to be done with it (I'm not a milk drinker, nor is anyone in my house). But in theory, that would be another processed food that I would use under the "no other practical choice" rule.

You remind me of a head of a certain Kashrus organization who claimed that Orange Juice under his organizations certification is more mehudar for Pesach, as the commerical plants bathe/wash the oranges prior to squeezing. The only issue is that he was making an assumption - at my home we wash oranges, grapefruit and lemons which are squeezed on Pesach.

If you go down to the bakery and help/watch them bake, is that considered mishing ? Also, all chabad doesn’t mish? They wouldn’t go to the hotels ?

Said family has their own matzah bakery in their basement.

Who is "all chabad"?

First time making Pesach
« Reply #89 on: March 20, 2020, 12:16:56 AM »
Unless things change drastically, it Seems like I’ll be making Pesach for the first time this yr. Feel free to post all tips on cleaning, shopping, cooking...
I vaguely remember that Rav Sheinberg used to tell ladies that you can clean a house for Pesach in a day and he had a list of what needs to be cleaned and what doesn’t. Does anyone have the list?

Step one. Consult with your Rov for guidance of what to do regarding cleaning and kashering and cooking.

Step two. Do not make additional chumros

Step three, if there is a specific minhag about a chumra refer to step one regarding whether our not it should be kept to under the current circumstances.

The places I see people wasting the most time:
1) A place that doesn't usually have chometz needs a check not an inch by inch scrub.  Unless you have small kids that eat around the house, or you tend to eat in your bedroom, check the drawers (no need to spring clean them), check the closet shelves and the clothing pockets and cuffs, vaccuum everywhere - voila! your bedroom is done.
2) If you're selling it to a goy - don't scrub it!  dishes, pots, etc   Food cabinets don't need to be emptied and spring cleaned before being closed  up for the goy.  For those who don't sell actual chometz, check with your rov if crumbs on the pantry shelves count.
3) Toys.  Close up the majority for the week.  Take out the things they really play with and clean those to leave out.
Cleaning toys for Pesach doesn't mean making the toys clean.  Grunge is NOT chometz.  Prepare a shissel with water and add a bit of cleanser, such as Mr. Clean. All plastic toys get dunked and put onto a towel.  Sit on the floor and dunk Lego/ Duplo, little people toy. A little tedious, but all the chometz is fully nullified. Of course if you see a chunk of dirt on a piece, toss it into the cabinet to save for after Pesach.  Large plastic toys can be sprayed with a cleanser/ water mixture without being wiped down and actually cleaned.
