Bank account affecting Credit Report?
« on: September 19, 2011, 08:52:32 PM »
It seems like there is absolutely no affect on your credit report unless your specific bank does hard pulls for the account you created.

Is it then fair to say that a 10,000 dollar bank account will not raise credit?

It's fair. Though it may raise your credit with the bank.

In some cases chase bankers will try to help you get a credit card if you have a big account with them.

+1
In general, the more money you keep with a bank, the more leverage you have with them should you need a favor, as they don't want you taking your business elsewhere.

I found it interesting that my brother who has no job, no bank account and no reported income  got a 15,000 dollar CL only because someone was using a credit card on his name...

So why do Credit card issuers ask if you have a checking/savings? I get a sense that it helps out, no?

I think it gives them an idea as to how financially secure you are. Just like when they ask for your income.

So can you lie about the bank account just as you can lie about income?

you shouldn't lie about either one (legally, morally, etc.)
yet, I don't think they have any more way of independently verifying your bank account than they do your income...

@nitantnel
That was probably more of an identity verification rather then income related

Im new here, so if this is the wrong place to ask please redirect me.
what is the deal with giving them your income? how does it affect your CL, chances of approval, legality with lying, and pros and cons about saying the truth or lying.

It's a lie. It's a material misrepresentation of fact. It's illegal. And (at least theoretically) you can be liable both civilly and criminally.
