Now that the US Mint deal is no longer, there may be a new way of "buying money" with your credit card.

Google launched its new NFC Payment App - Google Wallet - today, and buried in an article on CNET about the launch was this:
"Citibank, MasterCard, and Sprint are the initial launch partners for the service. What this means for users is that, initially, virtually the only credit cards that will work with Google Wallet are Citibank MasterCards. Google is also offering a Google Prepaid MasterCard as well, a workaround for people who may not have a Citibank MasterCard. People who want to use this card can preload money from other credit cards onto the Google prepaid card. And then they can make purchases using the phone."

As I read this I thought that depending on whether Google would charge such transactions as a cash advance or as a purchase, this may be able to be used to meet spending deadlines or the like. I'm sure that there will be monthly caps, etc., but we'll find out more as more information is released about the service.

I don't have a Nexus S, but I'm hoping to get the Nexus Prime when it comes out in November and would use this then. In the meantime, if anyone has a Nexus S, try thisout and let us know what happens...

According to an article on Engadget.com they are put through as a purchase.

Since you'll still be able to earn credit card rewards, there isn't a significant downside to using this option.

Im not sure what your so excited about. You can do the same thing by buying prepaid Amex cards as discussed in these forums.

Thats quite speculative. I guess well have to wait and c how it plays out!

They charge $5.00 to send you a check for the remaining balance within 30-45 days. Initially they only allow you to charge your cc $450.00 to fund the account and if you want to do more than that afterward they do an Id verification which includes your social (no credit pull) and then they allow you to charge up to $1000

It's a general statement. For $1k in CC spend I don't think it's worth the hassle, but whatever works for you...

got many accounts banned last year after a scripted spree of 1 cent donations... recently (around a month ago) received a few hundred emails saying that my payment method wasn't valid so it's possible they lifted the ban...

I got banned from GC ages ago, they recently reinstated by GW for payments, but not the merchant part.

Currently, they are running a promotion that waives the CC fees.    Max dollar amount allowed to be entered is $9999.  Though no idea what they will do if you actually push that through.
