How does that happen? You didn't realize to ask for references after the first time being scammed?
I think it was @Isma05 and the newer guy who got banned too@ hellow

Can we delete half the posts on this topic and in other threads related to this.. all we are doing is giving scammers ideas needed to make themselves look more legit.
+1
If there's someone really good out there he knows what he's doing even without your/our help.

It's like saying the news shouldn't publish stories how the burglars broke into someone's house, hence you're giving ideas for thieves and burglars have to break into people's houses. Obviously that's a dumb statement because you got to live life and that's what happens you just have to prevent it by taking security precautions on your end.
in my opinion I think you can accomplish more by putting it out there and warning all the members that there's those that will scam people whether new members whether old members it's on your end to make sure you don't get scammed and take the extra steps to avoid being scammed.

+ and - is cool, but what don't you like?

For example a guy like @davidrotts63 one day he bumps into a site called dansdeals forum and creates an account, he seemed like a very knowledgeable person, with Keen eyes.
First he became my buddy when he joined DDF, And now he blended in like a long time member. Was thinking to have him over for my pesach Seder but thinking again before that happens.. :P
You got to be careful out there..

It's putting ideas in peoples heads. Yes .1% of people can come along and steal a car. but 1% will steal a car if the keys are left in the ignition.

With your argument being said above. Not so sure if I should be posting this on an open forum, but good thing they don't come to visit the biggest yeshivah in North America..(GMB)

@Dan
Obviously, not your problem when scammers are out there, but what measures are you able to take from keeping the scammer out once something bad has occured?

IDK if this is the norm or an exception, but here's his response to a scammer-situation
If you PM me details I reach out to other side and ban if they don't respond.

Hi, I'm a brand new member who just stumbled upon this forum.

I found a great price on a Marriott certificate, corresponded at length with the seller, and placed money in an account at escrow.com .

The charges were minimal, particularly compared to the amount I am saving with the certificate, and it gave us both peace of mind.

Perhaps my experience isn't typical, and it did require a bit of back and forth + verification, but it was really work an hour or two of an afternoon to save hundreds and hundreds of dollars.

YMMV.

I'm fuming  >:(. I had someone ask to buy my night. I did all the booking and when it was time to pay...silent. Then after some back and forth on payment options she decided that she wasn't "comfortable with the situation" and wanted to cancel. Waste of my time. I really want to report those kind of people. Luckily I can still cancel but still frustrating a whole day's wasted.

This is a very slick plug for escrow.com 😁

I agree. One person chatted with me about alaska voucher. i spent like 1 day explaining and confirming and then when it was time to book the person bailed.

That's so annoying. At least you didn't book yet. I had to call Hyatt back to cancel the booking.

Actually, to be honest, I didn't end up using them, arranged payment elsewhere! But no, I don't work for them and didn't intend to plug them...
