Why do so many people still support the Mir?
« on: April 08, 2019, 04:54:13 PM »
So last night the Mir held their annual dinner and it got me thinking: Why do so many people still support the Mir?
Obviously many people have tremendous Hakaras Hatov for the years they spent there.
But the Mir has changed radically with the passing of Reb Nosson Tzvi ZATZAL. It's under new management. The warmth, the achdus and the feeling of being part of something, that existed 10 years ago, just isn't the same today.
As it no longer has an open-door policy, many of those that attended the dinner last night wouldn't get accepted if they would be 22 today. And many of their sons won't be getting in when they become of age.
Rabbi Beinstock was shown the door. Reb Nissan Kaplan left as well, I'm not sure exactly why.
They both opened their own yeshivos.
Rav Berel Whitman was also told to leave, but I hear they let him back quietly.

True, they have thousands of people learning all day. But so do Chevron, Ponevezh and many other yeshivos.
And there are American yeshivos in EY like Eichenstein's, Feivelsohns, Rubenstien's, Yagdil, Reb Dovid, Reb Sholom Shechter.....
Why not support them?

First part so true . Ppl don't really look what's going on today they just feel connected to what it once was. Plus all the prestige and all that comes with it +++. Also shows how strong a brand is, even if the quality isn't that great the brand just powers thru. About all the ppl who left or etc. That's not important info. As mentioned below.

I have no connection to the Mir, but I would ask a Rabbi before posting such a post, as it may be Loshon Hara in it's finest form and may cause irreparable damage.

True, this is an example of a broader problem where people send their kids to legacy Yeshivas that have very strong pasts and were led by Gedolim in the past, but are currently failing many bochurim as the leadership is out of touch with the current needs of today's generation.

Don't know much about the mir today in comparison to the past, but wow this post screams lashon hara.

Why would someone be distraught because people contribute to a Yeshiva?

Let's see how distraught all these people are when their kids don't get in. They'll regret every penny they ever donated.

It's all about image and ego. The Mir is the only "top" Israeli yeshiva for Chutznikim to make a dinner. If Brisk (any of them) would do this, with the Rosh Yeshivah in attendance in America, it would be a grand slam that would dwarf Mir by 1,000 to one.

I agree 100 percent with what knowitall is saying (for once )
I do not like how they cleaned house with rebbeim who wouldn't kiss the ring

Aslo I first hand dealt with the unfair policies when I took a faher sorry I'm not rechnitz

I also want to add that if a rebbi in the yeshiva doesn't care enough to call when you have a baby or get married or make time when the rebbi comes in to America DONT ASK ME FOR MONEY

Also relevant username I know

Why do you think they are donating? It's the only way to get your kid in.
I'm not who you think I am.

There is nothing wrong (perhaps) with someone losing favor for a Yeshiva and stopping to donate. Airing the grievances on a public forum is something else entirely. I would advise you delete the posts, or get a rabbi on board.

Again, I have absolutely no connection to the yeshiva. My position is solely as an Orthodox Jew.

I also have nothing to do with the mir but this thread is stooping to VIN levels.

I’m not complaining about the Mir.
I’m asking how dumb can their American donors be?
Why give money today based on the Mir legacy or Reb Nosson Tzvi? Heck, even the older faculty of the Mir that’s still alive are being overrun by certain younger ppl.
(@YitzyS I won’t mention names as I don’t believe that is right.)

The bottom line is:
If you like the way the current administration is running the ship, then by all means, donate.
But give your tzedaka elsewhere if you liked R’ Nosson Tzvi or the way he ran the Mir, because that place no longer exists.

#Fakenews.
All he's saying is the Mir of today is not the Mir of yesteryear, and I have yet to find someone who disagrees.

No, he's saying it's not the Mir of yesteryear, and therefore don't donate.
