Does beg the question, how they could’ve landed someone on the moon and returned 50 yrs ago but they can’t seem to get it right in 2019. #conspiracy (making popcorn now)
There's no doubt that a manned craft would be designed with multiple failsafes and backup systems in case the primary plan goes awry. Certainly the Apollo crafts did. Beresheet did not- obviously helping to keep the cost low but also making it more vulnerable to failure.
Also, controlling a spacecraft from Earth is far more difficult than having a pilot on board. The signal can be lost due to interference, positioning, random freezes, etc. And every command is executed with a delay because communication only happens at the speed of light.
