GE Refrigerator Water Filters - Which one?
« on: April 08, 2019, 03:01:12 PM »
My new GE fridge is now telling me I have 8 days to replace the water filter.

The one from GE is $54! and the same from Amazon is a not-much-better $48.

What do others do?

Based on my research, with this confirming, GE makes it absurdly difficult to use a generic brand filter for less then half the price and I don't recall seeing the "filter by-pass" when I got the fridge..?
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

While we wait for others, what do you do currently?

What's the difference between the RPWFE and model without the E.

The E ones are the newer ones that come with a coded chip so it knows if you are using a generic filter in which case it stops to function  >:(

Not only that, each chip is unique to each filter so if you tried to take the chip off the oem filter and put in onto a generic filter it will detect it and also stop functioning.

This world is crazy! First with ink cartridges and now a filter for the fridge!
Give it some time and there will be many knock off water filters with chips that work.
