Can anyone recommend a portable air conditioner?

From the reviews online it seems that these things don't work well and break easily. Has anyone had success with any particular model? Looking to spend up to $300 for 8000 BTU minimum.

I've been using the Danby Premiere for about 2 years (ac & heat) with no issues. (I think it is the 16000 BTU version but will have to double check) bought "end-of-season" (end of July) 2 years ago at Plug-ins in Borough Park for around $325 IIRC.
