So im still trying to get to the bottom of this whole situation. Apparently, someone must of had both my info and my wife's bec someone called (not me) and cancelled both of our our cards.

I was only able to get my points transferred by giving them my membership rewards number and not by giving them the cc number bec it would have triggered that there was something wrong with the account. Luckily, like Dan mentioned previously, its about the rep you get, however it took me like 3 hours on the phone with them (in total) to get to that one lucky rep. I lost 40,000 points in the process bec I panicked and was excited to hear that there was even a rep willing to transfer them. I know it was a very dumb move on my part (do to the lack of knowledge) but at least I was able to get the rest out safely.

As of now, they still do not want to reinstate our cards bec I guess they think there is fraud going on if someone else called to cancel. I demanded them to listen to the recording of the person who called to cancel, and that they should get in touch with the shift supervisor who handled the account at that time.

I will try my best to update the thread if anything new comes about.

If someone's account is closed or frozen, how can one transfer out the points? Isn't membership rewards, American Express themselves as opposed to spg for example?

Actually read all, but did not see an explanation how or why you are able to do so. I always knew that if your amex spg card gets shut down, your spg points are all safe, as opposed to Amex membership rewards. Now, from this thread it seems that even MR is safe. Can you explain? Thanks

Thank you . Elikay are you hearing this?
There's a difference btwn having cards shut down after many thousands spent, and cards frozen before they were even used.

I had a similar thing happen to a friend of mine. He accidently typed an extra "1" when typin in the checkin account number when payin his bill so they fr'd him. After he passed, the fraud department shut down his account. Lost all his points and no refund on the $450. He had his card open for all of 3 weeks and they basically stole his $450.
Has anyone been able to get a refund on the $450???

Why did they shut him down if he "passed"?? There must be more to the story.
