There's a number of places that take money out of a server's tips to pay for dishwashers, bartenders and bussers. In theory, you could work a shift without making any actual tips and leave owing the restaurant money. There is a very large national chain that does this. I'm surprised this attorney hasn't found them yet.

Idiots like him are the reason that nobody wants to practice medicine anymore

I disagree. I'd be happy to pay a few more dollars at a restaurant (a luxury, mind you), so that I know the staff are adequately paid (at least what they deserve legally), but I don't feel the same way about medicine. Tort has to be reformed, and healthcare in this country has to be fixed. Right now the insurance companies are double dipping (charging doctors for malpractice insurance and consumers/employers for health insurance) at everyone else's expense.

No, what you said is that "there are also many restaurants that are guilty of no more than being unaware of some irrelevant draconian laws that don't detrimentally effect the waiters in any way, and this lawyer is using them to exploit them for millions."

Many would argue with your usage of "irrelevant." Some of those people would might be, perhaps, the waiters.
actually, they wouldn't, because the rest of the sentence said
... irrelevant draconian laws that don't detrimentally effect the waiters in any way....
anyway, you just jumped from one "argument" to a completely different one that didn't follow in any way, so i'm not really sure what your point is anymore, but ok.

I'm not particular. As long as you agree.

Disagree.

Ok fine. as long as you sign my stupid petition and stop complaining about it. I don't complain about your family (perhaps because I don't know what to complain)

The original article makes a good point, though - when we think of "wait staff," the image our mind conjures up is usually one of a minimum-wage employee. In reality, waiters in upper-class restaurants make a LOT of money. So he's using the image in our minds to his advantage, and I would venture, deliberately fooling people.
