lost/stolen by UPS

I had to return an expensive item through UPS ground. Wanted a receipt so I went to UPS store, to be told it's in the wrong kind of box.

Went to my office, packed in the right box, and bumped into the UPS guy and figured I might as well and asked him to scan it. He said he would do that right after he dropped off and scanned that item. I did not actually see him scan it (could not follow him around).

Now a day later it is still not in UPS system. Cannot get through to any live person at UPS due to covid and not having a record of pickup.

I saw him the next day and he claimed he scanned it and can't help me.

Is there anything I can do?

I would wait it out a day or two.
  There has been way too many instances where my packages were never scanned in the system and only scanned upon delivery.

 But yes in the future if you had insurance on the package the best idea would be to go into the shop and get a receipt.

Good question, technically speaking you can file a claim that it was stolen, which you would be covered. Not sure of they make you make a police report or not.
  But if they don't then that's another option.

Good reminder not to send expensive items with the ups guy

I’ve had that before and was even delivered with no scans. I’ve done it 100’s of times with no issues, but that is not to say there can’t be. After my scare I stopped and only dropped off at UPS location and got receipt.

I know with USPS specifically that many times it doesn't scan and 5 days later when it's delivered I see it shows delivered.

I'll think twice before dropping an item in a UPS drop box, access point. Or unless it's in a safe neighborhood and it's not polluted with Ganavim.

 every time I would ever put an item in a drop box I would always open it first to see if the packages are within hand reach to pull out.

 I can recall countless amount of times when opening the box the box was overflowing and I could literally empty out half the box by sticking my hand in.

 As well as weird as it sounds I was playing around with the FedEx Express drop box and was able to open it a few times.

 again the safest option is to hand-deliver it to driver and make sure he scans it obviously do it while he's parked or bring it into a drop-off store.

update- UPS spoke to driver and he said he did scan it. So UPS knows its missing, since they have no pickup from here on that day. They said it is possible there was another old label on it, and that got scanned, I don't know. Anyway it seems they will take responsibility.

The issue is now the shipper has to be the one to initiate a trace, but it's very hard to get through to anyone there due to covid and when I did they refused to initiate. I'll keep at it, but at least there is some hope.

Yeh that's a silly mistake.
 You got to always remember to remove any old labels.

I always do remove, but I guess it's possible I didn't, wouldn't remember.
