Credit Cards for Newborns
« on: May 13, 2019, 08:09:01 PM »
Hi,

This could be a stupid question. I don't know if this is even a thing but can I add my newborn as an authorized user to my credit cards just so that he can build history? Or Is this a stupid question?

If not for a newborn, at what age is good to add your child?

Not at all. Cards like Chase and Citi do not require SSN so in theory can be added any time. sock draw the card as soon as they arrive.

I've done this w/ several Chase cards, though the rep had to check with a manager.

Amex requires additional users to be at least 13.

Could just add AUs via website self service. Agents ask too many questions.

Isn't newborn a lil too early?
You still have many years to build the newborn's credit.
And don't forget that if something negatively happens to your credit it'll effect the newborn's too
Common sense is not a gift, it is a punishment.
Because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.

I don't think that's how it works. I believe it just takes the credit age

Wouldn’t a AU added without SSN not count as history since it’s not actually linked to the person you want it to? It’s just a card with a name. You can write Mickey Mouse on the card for all they care.

-1. I've added people to chase cards without SSN, and it was added to their report.

How could we verify that it goes on the Childs report? My son and my father have the same exact name.

I believe they do it by name and address. IIRC I was told that by a CSR once.

No, AUs are not responsible .
I've heard stories of it effecting AU's score.

Like here:
Bad news I'm at 625 :( cause I was an AU on a seriously delinquent account. Any way to fix?
