Avoiding Airfare Cancellation Fees
« on: May 17, 2019, 06:09:57 AM »
When canceling airline trip booked through Chase Sapphire Rewards is there any way to avoid the $150 per person, each way, cancellation fee? Canceling to attend a wedding, adjusting vacation schedule, no medical excuse.

Wait for a schedule change. Then cancel for free.

Also check for weather updates, if there's a storm advisory many times they let you change for free

The delay would have to be enough hours for that to work, no?

I've been pleasantly surprised with what DL, AC, and Amex travel have let me get away with over the past couple years.

Most recently, DL let me move my flight from Sun to the previous Thurs when the connection in JFK was reduced by 15 min. Never mind that the new itinerary had the same tight connection

As I write this, I remember that my upcoming LY reservation booked through UR Portal had schedule changes on both ends of the itinerary. Let's see if I can convince Chase to change it to an itinerary out of PIT so I don't have to position to YYZ.

Booked a flight for 3 weeks out in June for 6:05am instead of pm on AC.
Is there anything I can do to have that changed?

Since it's the 24 hour format mistakenly read 6:05 as 6:05 p.m. as my original flight is p.m. so my return flight I assumed it was p.m. as well when I read 6:05 arriving 8:30.

To change my flight now would cost me $200+ ,for the fare difference as well as $100 change fee.

My whole flight costed to me 292 round trip from Toronto to New York, so paying $200+ is not what I want to do.

Or waiting for the day of the flight ,after midnight and only pay the $100 change fee without the fare difference.

Or hoping there's a weather delay or weather alert for that day,  or change in schedule.

Or book a new flight for under $100.

Any other options on the table for me? Don't enjoy the fact that I have to be on shpilkaz not knowing what I'm doing to get back home.

Bh it let me change it to a pm flight for Monday because of weather advisory.
Now I have to try to change it online to JFK vs LGA.

Nope

Better check your reservation.
