   Has anyone ever had luck calling UA, DL, LY ,AC or even one of the European carriers and try to get a group discount for booking 7-10 pax RT?
 Worth a call? Or wasting my time, and best off looking for a mileage ticket or cash tickets?

There is no reason for them to give you a discount, especially not on a group that small.
In fact, contrary to popular belief, group flight are almost always more expensive, not cheaper.
You'd do better finding the best regular priced ticket option and booking that online or through a travel agent.

+1, Airlines have more leverage with group flights, hence they charge more.

Yes. Also most groups are 20-50 people so there is even less of a chance of getting the cheap price for everyone.
Also groups often don't have the passenger names up front so the group rate is more expensive but allows you to lock in the price in advance.

Also groups often don't have all the money up front and with a group rate you can usually pay most of it closer to the flight.
