if its only exclusive for 6 months i dont think it will help sprint that much since most ppl i think would rather wait 6 months and keep their att or verizon phone then switch carriers unless sprint has better deals for service

"Helping" sprint doesn't have to mean an increase in subscriber base. At least for now it can simply mean stemming the absolute hemorrhaging of their current customer base.

Unless they grow (significantly), there's no way they'll move 30 million+ iPhones.

They're committing to Unl. data in their advertising, but this might change in the future. If that happens, short their stock...

OT P.s. Anyone have any clue why RIM is up 3% in a down market? Adjustment for yesterday?

might be a good indicator to short their stock

There are no hard indicators ATM that Sprint plans on moving to tiered data. Shorting their stock (long term) might be a good idea either way.

Changing the plan from unlimited to tiered my be enough to allow unlimited subscribers to cancel without ETF.

Stuff like that has been happening forever.

That's a good point, but they don't need to move 30MM iPhones in 6 months. That fact coupled with the (hopefully non-changing) unlimited data plans will, IMHO, get a nice chunk of iPhone users to Sprint when their respective K's end.

example), Sprint counldn't move 30 million iPhones over three years with their current subscriber base.

People who are waiting for their 2yr contract to end at another carrier will probably be able to get the iPhone with their own carrier by the time their agreement is up (or soon thereafter).

There's also adverse selection to factor it. Considering that Sprint is the only carrier currently offering unl. data, at least some of the people switching to Sprint will be heavy data users looking to take advantage of Sprints unl. data plan.

(So far) Looks like only the iPhone 4S being announced today, maybe the iPhone 5 will be announced on 10/7 at the Sprint event in NYC.
