In our shul , the rov mentions by krias megilla (day) that people should have in mind mitzvos hayom. Don't know if that's required though.
Sure. But I was yotzei shehechiyanu. Just that some people receiving the mishloach manos haven't davened yet.

This year I made about 3 gallons of strong, cold coffee (rum-flavored), added a mini-halva bar and a muffin. Total cost: under 5 shekel each person (including the heart-shaped container for the coffee - about 100ml). Making and pouring the coffee took me about an hour (my wife helped by taking the whole family elsewhere).
Message says "What will it take for us to wake up?" and Simchas Purim from our family. Deliveries were about half-done (about thirty) before 8AM, as part of the theme is for people to have it early. I helpfully had a psak from Rabbi Berkovits that the coffee could be drunk before Shacharis  8).
I have a reputation for coffee-related things so it was on theme.

PS Why couldn't we bump this BEFORE Purim?
where you get your coffee?
שוק קפה?

Taster's Choice Barista is one of the two instant coffees that taste closest to brewed (the other - Nescafe Gold - costs double and doesn't have eida, so would require a disclaimer and tons of people wouldn't drink it, even though it is 100% coffee). Per gallon you use about two teaspoons of rum extract.

we decided long ago to only give things people enjoy eating and not just things that look fancy

Good Ideas:
Mini grape juice, roll wafers, pastires (from a bakery) etc

My kids love the mini grape juice.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Mini grape juice and noodle soup cups are kid's favorites, go figure.
