Biltong vs. Beef Jerky
« on: May 21, 2019, 09:49:53 PM »
Just tried biltong for the first time - granted, it's the packaged Joburg brand, and the only beef jerky I've tasted has also been packaged, but so far the biltong seems way better to me (flavor and texture) than beef jerky.

What do most people prefer?

Also, aside from Joburg, do other companies make Biltong?

Depends. I've always preferred jerky. I like the tough chew, and haven't found that in biltong. When I make my own jerky, I always make it super dry and chewey.
Memories last forever, make them while you can.

Yeah, I think Biltong is naturally a little less tough because of the process. For me, jerky is just too tough to enjoy. I've tried jerky that I literally could not get a bite off a large chunk.

Dunno - this was by a conference that had a fancy dinner afterwards, and they had some kind of dried meat thing...maybe it was beef sticks? They were pretty small, my only recollection is that I couldn't even manage to bite a piece off, so I just dropped it in the garbage and moved on.
