New Credit Cards Recommendation
« on: May 30, 2019, 09:10:54 AM »
I need to spend about $8,000 within a week for a doctor's office. Which credit card or credit cards should I try to open where I would get the most bang for my bucks?

To be honest, this is way to broad of a question. it depends on what card you already have, what point currency you want more of, 5/24 status, targeting elite status through spend, etc etc. So many factors impact this decision.

I don't travel much, so I am not looking for travel points. I understand there are other factors, but generally what are 2-3 cards with current amazing signup bonus that with 8k spending will get me a good return? I can split that into 2 cards if need be.

Generic advice based on what you’re saying. I’m sure Dan would appreciate you using his link when you decide to apply.

Barclays Arrival+ seems to have the highest elevated sign up bonus at the moment with 70k. while it’s technically a travel card, but it “wipes” travel charges off and generally easy to use.

Chase Ink Preferred is always nice with 80k offer that is $800 or higher when used towards travel.

If somehow this 8000 can be swiped on a POS device, then US Bank Altitude Reserve might be an interesting play.

Get 2 arrival+ from Barclays. Assuming you have a SO to sign up for, you will need to hit $10k in spend. Its essentially a cashback card when you know how to redeem it. I believe based on what you described this would be the simplest route for a very nice return ($1400).

Usually when someone asks what's the best credit card I just ignore it.

With the Braclays you only really get the full value of the points when you redeem it for travel (1 cent per point vs halp a cent) so though it's easier to use since you can apply your points as a statement credit for your travel and there's no trasfering to travel partner programs it may not be the right card for someone who doesn't travel.
Great card though.
If you can get biz cards, all 3 Chase inks are great options. Chase Saphire preffered 60k offer with AF waived (if you can find it) is another fine option
Common sense is not a gift, it is a punishment.
Because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.

Correct I wasn't counting the spend just the SUB.

No need to actually spend it on travel.

Where can you find that? Is it only targeted?

I can surely have them swipe on a POS device, but why is that important?

US Bank Altitude earns 3x on mobile wallet payments.

I believe he means swipe at a travel place that can be canceled. Then you get credit...
Very risky
