Trick when one only ticket is left at the cheapest price
« on: June 29, 2009, 01:37:11 PM »
I just tried to book a 2 tickets from EWR to LAX on CO. To book one was 268, but when I tried to book two- it was 298 each because there was only one ticket left at the low price. To bypass, I simply opened two browsers (don't use the same browser or it will cache) and simultaneously bought the tickets at the low price.

Anyone ever tried that before?

No need, simply get to the point where both tickets are at the "checkout" stage and you'll be good- as long as one of your sessions doesn't timeout. The airline can't not let the purchase go through if it's already about to be bought- as far as I know.

after you put it in your cart, they hold the seat for 15 - 20 minutes and then release it, if not purchased (I presume that's what Daniel means by you session timing out) I even did it once on the Aeroplan site (but I was using 2 separate FF accounts as well - I don't know if they'll allow you to log into the account twice)

I don't think that's true. If they actually hold the seat, then the system wouldn't let someone else (or the same person using a different browser) purchase it at the same time. What happens is better than them holding the seat- they garuntee you the price in your "cart" for as long as your session hasn't expired. I think the browsing session can last indefinitely, assuming you keep changing your seat assigment, meal requests, or do something that keeps your session from timing out.

I've tried this on Frontier.com and it did not work. It will work with some websites, but not with all. What would be worthwhile to know is if it works with major sites like orbitz, expedia, priceline etc.

a friend of mine once managed to book a whole plane as a group at the cheapest discount price by doing that - 2 people booking 2 groups at the same time over the phone
