Turkish air has the best rates to Israel that I can find, with 1-2 hour layovers in IST both ways. Is there any concern of safety or any other reason why a frum person should avoid this?

Definitely no safety issues. Worst case you might get some attitude, depending on your passport nationality and how Jewish you look
If it's far off I personally would fear reductions in daily flights, which can make a mess to your reservation.

It's two bags for each trans-Atlantic segment, continuing through the whole itinerary -- so two bags from JFK through to TLV

Same difference as JFK-TLV -- same allowance.  Safe trip!

Thanks for the quick reply. To get this thread back on topic, I have a US passport but clearly look Jewish. I would be leaving soon, so not so worried about flight reductions. Should I be worried that they would harass/detain me to the point that I wouldn't make my connecting flight (stopover is only 1-2 hours)?

Thanks for the quick reply. On the plane ride itself, how are the flight attendants (and passengers) likely to respond when I want to put on Tallis and Tefillin to daven? Will they let me stand in the back, make me sit in my seat, or come up with an excuse to try to stop me from doing so?

If he didn't look Jewish already, I'll be the yarmulka was a dead giveaway (unless the Reb Nachman kind, which could get confused with a Muslim head covering)  ;D

Never flown TK, but I personally daven schacris without tefillin on the plane and put them on for Mincha instead

Normally if you notify them politely in advance, there is no problem.

I just don't enjoy everyone staring me (don't fly LY). I also can be tired and reduced kavana, so I just postpone it, if possible. Hasn't happened to much as I hate direct flights.
